The final debate of the 2012 Presidential campaign between President Barack Obama and wannabe Mitt Romney will take place this evening at 9 pm EST from Lynn University, Boca Raton, Florida.
The topics of the debate will be Foreign Policy and the moderator, Bob Schieffer of CBS News, has divided issues for discussion into six 15 minute sessions.
According to the Washington Post the six segments will be:
America’s role in the world; our longest war, Afghanistan and Pakistan; red lines and Israel and Iran; two segments on the changing Middle East and the new face of terrorism; the rise of China and tomorrow’s world.
Does Romney pass the gut test to be commander in chief, especially in tense situations which require diplomacy? Hell no! He is gaff prone and inconsistent and America does not need a leader who so easily picks fights. President Obama on the other hand has proven that he can be both patient and assertive and there can be little argument with the fact that he has way more experience in successfully dealing with foreign policy issues than Romney.
Speaking as a European I am pleased to report that many here believe that the world is not ready for a Romney presidency. Recent polls here reveal that a whopping 75% prefer President Obama to Mitt Romney and that many European leaders such as Britain's David Cameron have built good relationships with the Obama Whitehouse that they would prefer not to lose. Romney during his July European tour could easily have been characterised as the invited house guest that the host wanted to go home because the guest had repeatedly insulted him. That is how lacking in grace that Romney is seen to be over here!
Tonight, President Obama has to keep up the momentum that he established in the last debate in New York. Romney is sure to be much more guarded than he was during the second debate as there was a lot of criticism regarding his style and lack of manners to both the Moderator and the President and President Obama should be able to use this to his advantage. Especially if he delivers his Romney take downs with a smile.
I am once again cautiously optimistic. No. Wait. That would be utterly spineless of me. Instead I will say that I am optimistic that President Obama has the strength and fortitude to win this debate and that he will do so!
