Selling the Myth: GOP Bashes Obama for Policies Reagan Endorsed

by Sunnyjane

All must worship at the alter of the Godhead of the Conservative Party!

When general election time rolls around, every Republican who desires to be the GOP candidate for president must firmly adhere to  Reagan's conservative credoGovernment is not the solution to our problem; government IS the problem!** Now, in their hearts souls minds (I'll get it right in a minute, don't rush me!) corrupt craniums, they all know that in today's world of Republican Teabagger Party rule, most of the fortieth president's policies would never get him anywhere near the White House.  (Clarification: Conservatives have never attributed the above Reagan quote to President Obama.)

But invoking Reagan's name appeals greatly to conservatives who have no knowledge of what policies he actually supported; those who believe anything they hear from flap-yapping conservative maws; and those who continue to wish upon the Legendary Chicken Fairy for election results.  Or, all of the aforementioned.

Let's just jump right in and examine a few of Ronald Reagan's policies for which President Obama now finds himself being crucified on a daily basis.

Oh, Ronnie, Why Hast Thou Forsaken Us?

Here endeth the Second Lesson.
It is always great sport for the far-right God-botherers -- both leaders and followers -- to do a little mouth-foaming and lament that Obama has a war on Christianity because he's a Kenyan-Muslim-Anti-Christ-Communist-Nazi-Marxist-Socialist sonofabitch.  Or, words to that effect; choose one or all.  In truth, President Obama says very little about the Separation of Church and State doctrine.

The late President Ronald Reagan, however, had a great deal to say, and basically he was all for it.  In a 1984 speech, the Gipper said, ...we were founded as a nation of openness to people of all beliefs. And so we must remain. Our very unity has been strengthened by our pluralism. We establish no religion in this country, we command no worship, we mandate no belief, nor will we ever. Church and state are, and must remain, separate. All are free to believe or not believe, all are free to practice a faith or not, and those who believe are free, and should be free, to speak of and act on their belief.

Now, about Obama's war on Christianity?

Holy Guacamole Dip, Sports Fans!

Carl J. Friedrich: To be an American is an ideal, while to be a Frenchman is a fact.
The very mention of immigration reform gives the right-wingers a bad case of acid reflux.  They accuse the President of everything from mongrelizing America to claiming that birthright citizenship would enable pregnant terrorists to come to America, deliver their babies, and raise them as sleeper agents.  No, seriously

St. Ronnie would never have approved of such nonsense as immigration reform!  Would he?  Actually, he did!

I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally, Reagan said in a 1985 speech.

In a 2010 interview with NPR, his former speechwriter said, It was in Ronald Reagan's bones — it was part of his understanding of America — that the country was fundamentally open to those who wanted to join us here.

Oh.

Lawless Obama Subverts Congress!

Um, welllll...
Lying vice-presidential loser Paul Ryan is about the umpteenth Republican to claim that President Obama's use of Executive Orders is leading to an increasingly lawless presidency and is creating a dangerous trend which is contrary to the Constitution.

Not only do the facts speak for themselves, but let's review ONE...MORE...TIME:  President Barack Obama is a Constitutional Law scholar and a former Constitutional Law professor.  I do believe he knows a thing or two about what is and what is not contrary to the Constitution.

Note to self:  Deep breaths, take deep breaths.

Socialized Healthcare Will Make You Sick!

Why yes, yes it is going to work.  Thanks for acknowledging that.

Ever hear of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act?  No, me either.  And obviously neither has the current group of bobble-headed goons in the Capitol Building.

Ronald Reagan signed this act in 1986, and it is socialized healthcare.  Briefly, the law requires hospitals to treat patients in need of emergency care regardless of their ability to pay, their citizenship, or even their legal status. It applies to any hospital that takes Medicare funds, which is virtually every hospital in the country.  Translation: the Government picks up the tab, which means the taxpayer pays the bill.

The Affordable Care Act, on the other hand, requires that a covered person pay for some of his or her healthcare insurance.

A Little Hypocrisy on  the Side, Please

Can you say sniveling lying bitch?  Yes, I thought you could.

If anyone cares to read about Sir Ronald's sordid Iran-Contra scandal, including all the indictments and convictions of Reagan's people and the subsequent full pardons granted by President H. W. Bush, be my guest.  I have absolutely nothing to add.

 Umbrellagate
History will record that on this day in 2013, a Marine was forced to hold an umbrella.

So one day in May, it began to rain.  It rained at the White House.  It rained on President Obama and the Prime Minister of Turkey.  And because it rained, the President of the United States asked someone -- specifically, the Marine sentries right behind him -- to hold umbrellas over his and the Prime Minister's heads for a few minutes.

Cue the hysteria from conservatives.  And, of course, Sarah Palin had to take to Twitter and voice her spoutrage: Mr. President, when it rains it pours, but most Americans hold their own umbrellas.

And which Americans might those be, Mrs. Palin?

These two Americans?

This American?

Or this small-minded American?
Just to clarify the role of the Marine Sentries who stand to post behind the President: their only official  duty is to open the door for anyone entering or exiting the West Wing, where the Oval Office is located.  That's it!  So when the President of the United States, who also happens to be the military's Commander in Chief, asks his door handler to hold an umbrella for a few minutes, the door handler damned well does it.

Besides, as one young sentry joked, With this on my resume, I'm sure I could land a job at New York's Waldorf Astoria.  See?  The position provides excellent job training.

Oh, and speaking of Palin's spoutrage, I must have missed the part where she slammed Ann Coulter for calling the President a word she claims offended her deeply.  You remember, when she went off on Rahm Emanuel for using the same word?   Well, after the third presidential debate between the President and Mitt Romney in 2012 -- which the President handily won, according to instant voter polls -- Coulter tweeted I highly approve of Romney's decision to be kind and gentle to the retard.

I guess to Palin that was just, um, some more conservative wing-nuttery satire, right?

And the Award Goes to...

"And the Oscar for Best Overt Racism and Blatant Hypocrisy goes to...Fox News!" the First Lady never, ever said.
Michelle Obama was invited to reveal the Academy Award for Best Picture during the 2013 Oscar presentations.  She accepted, and in a short appearance from the White House, announced that Argo had won the award.

Of course, the conservatives once again went into absolute apeshit-crazy-mode.  Todd Starnes of Fox Noise tweeted that Tonight was supposed to be about Hollywood – but Mrs. Obama made it about herself.   Never one to miss an opportunity to bash an Obama, Michelle The Mouth Malkin sent a tweet, too: Can POTUS and FLOTUS just relocate the White House to Hollywood and be done with it?   Jennifer Rubin, the right-wing political screecher at the Washington Post, said that the First Lady feels entitled and that both the president and the first lady seem small and grasping.

They didn't have a whole lot to say when presented with the fact that both First Lady Laura Bush and President Ronald Reagan had made short appearances on Oscar night.

A Little of This Fact and a Little of That Fact

Acknowledgement

My grateful thanks to BuffaloGal for allowing me to hijack her idea -- and modify the approach -- to toss out some of Ronald Reagan's middle-ground policies, attribute them to President Obama, and watch right-wingers' heads explode.

As always when I snatch an idea for a post from a Politicalgater, I hope I have done the topic justice.

Thanks again, BuffaloGal!

The Approaching Tempest: Immigration Reform

by Sunnyjane

The President's Second Term Domestic Policy Agenda

Mitt Romney (R-Failed Presidential Candidate) had a Day One To Do List that would have repealed everything President Obama had fought for to make life better for the American people. Fortunately, the President won that little battle, and is going forward in his second term to continue making life better for everyone in this country.

One of those issues is Immigration Reform.  The so-called Gang of Eight is already working on a nonpartisan (ahem!) bill.  Frankly, from my point of view, this does not look promising.  I hope that I'm wrong.

Those People Actually Voted!

How dare you people exercise your right to register and vote!

The 2012 Presidential Election proved that there is no resurrection from blatant political hubris.  After disregarding, demeaning, or dismissing  every needed-to-win demographic voting bloc in the country, the Republicans' arrogance still led them to believe victory would be theirs -- in a landslide, no less.  Their thinking was, to put it mildly, somewhat flawed.   According to their thought processes, Obama had done nothing for those who Rick Santorum insisted were blahs, not blacks, whose lives he didn't want to make better by giving them someone else's money.  I must have missed that particular segment of the electorate; was there an exit poll that singled out the blahs?  No, I didn't think so.

But what of the Latino vote?  The Republicans actually believed that their candidate could win the Latino vote after refusing to endorse the President's Dream Act; insulting them by saying that, had his father been Mexican, he'd have a better chance to get their vote; praising Arizona's severe SB1070 immigration law as a model for the rest of the country; and advising undocumented immigrants to self-deport and get in line in their own countries for American citizenship.

Where Have All the Angry White Guys Gone?

Lord, let the angry white men rain down upon us -- and be quick about it!
Just so we're straight here, there is no truth to the rumor that the GOP-run House of Representatives is going to introduce a bill to change the bronze plaque on the Statue of Liberty to read: Give me your energetic, your rich, your white guys yearning to own guns and stamp out the brown folks... etc.

Since there are enough over-paid white men  -- and women -- flapping their yaps on anti-American far-right "news" stations to colonize New Gingrich's moon base, one has to do some head-scratching to ponder the where have they gone? question.  I suggest we just send the GOP the 2010 Census.  The angst-filled lamentations after President Obama got between seventy and seventy-eight percent of the Latino vote (figures vary according to exit polls and sponsored polls) in the November 6 election would be amusing if they weren't so damned daft.

Ann Coulter makes no pretense of being fair and balanced in her rants.  What she does not admit, however, is that she's a loud-mouthed racist liar: frequently wrong, but never in doubt.  To far-right conservatives such as herself, research (a valuable guide to the truth) is an abomination.  Labeling immigrants from Latin America nitwits who deserve lives of misery and joblessness confirms that.  In truth, Latinos use fewer benefits to which they are entitled than do non-Hispanic whites.  Another truth Coulter refuses to acknowledge:  while calling Latinos a deluge of unskilled immigrants pouring into the country, the inconvenient fact is that, since 2000, they have created twice as many businesses as the general public.

Cartoon from 1850 -- Irish Immigrants Coming to America: Oh No!

Watching Bill O'Reilly mourning over the loss of traditional America is a sight to behold.  This descendent of Irish immigrants who came to America during the Eighteen Hundreds is one of the loudest critics any pathway to citizenship for Latinos.  At the time of the Irish influx into this country, Protestant whites were outraged and fearful. The Irish were stereotyped as  uncivilized, unskilled and impoverished and were forced to work at the least desired occupations and live in crowded ethnic ghettos.  Irish immigrants often found that they were not welcome in America; many ads for employment were accompanied by the order "NO IRISH NEED APPLY."

O'Reilly is consistent in his racism, you have to give him points for that, I suppose.  He took up vital oxygen shortly after the election to ponder why Hawaii always votes Democratic.  Noting that thirty-five percent of Hawaiians are Asian, he declared that Asian people are not liberal, you know, by nature. They're usually more industrious and hard-working.  The message, of course, is twofold: Liberals and Latinos are not industrious and hard-working.  Got that?

Oh Baby, No Anchor Baby!

I'm not a racist, I just don't want "people of color" in my country!
Far-right white Christians lustily sing on Sunday mornings that Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world; red and yellow, black and white -- so long as He loves the reds, yellows and blacks in any country other than America.

Ignoring the fact that the Supreme Court has consistently maintained that anyone born in the United States, regardless of their parents’ immigration status, should receive citizenship under the 14th Amendment Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa Bigot) already introduced a bill to -- wait for it -- clarify those classes of individuals born in the United States who are nationals and citizens of the United States at birth.  Translation:  White people, Citizens; Colored people, Not Citizens.

There, wasn't that easy?

Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham Criticise Sarah Palin

By Kathleen

As I have previously mentioned, there has been a lot of criticism of and discussions about Sarah Palin from sections of the GOP concerned that she has not yet announced her intentions with regard to the 2012 presidential race. Many political observers and several critics from the GOP believe that Sarah's tease has gone on long enough.

On Tuesday, in an interview with Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter joined the fray when she answered Ingraham's question that "This has been a loooooooong tease with Sarah Palin and at some point that tease has just got to deliver or go away. What's going to happen here?"

Coulter responded that:

"Newt Gingrich carried it on for about fifteen years and I kind of think that that might be what we are getting here, largely because of the polls...........some not quite as high as 74% but 65% said that they would never definitely, positively, ever vote for Sarah Palin........and that it doesn't seem likely with those numbers that she will run. "

Palin of course has her own views about the polls and the statistics that they produce. She thinks that they are for strippers. Which reminds me:

Palin, now that the polls are against her, believes that they are unimportant. But wasn't it her own poll figures (which were manipulated by her own campaign team and supporters during her run for AK Governor in 2006) that convinced McCain that he should place her on the 2008 ticket? See, that is my point about Palin. She just does not see things the way that the rest of us do. The polls are against her now and so she reduces them to the level of Bristol stripping on Dancing With The Stars. Suddenly, they are no longer important.

Coulter and Ingraham realised that they would suffer significant blowback from Palin fans angered at their evaluation of Queen Palin, and they did. Coulter stated:

Most Americans don't want Sarah Palin for president. But she's become sort of the Obama of the Tea Party. She's just "The One" to a certain segment of right wingers. And the tiniest criticism of her -- I think many of your viewers may not know this. No conservative on TV will criticize Palin, because they don't want to deal with the hate mail. You know, you say her voice is a few octaves too high or perhaps Michele Bachmann's speaking voice is more modulated, and you will be inundated with enraged e-mails and letters.

The Washington Times printed the reactions of Palin supporters on Twitter. They were predictable and those of us who have been following this story will not be surprised at the content because we know that Palin's supporters are as convinced of her deity as she is. That want to see that crown placed on her forehead and will go after any one that they perceive makes their goal that bit more difficult.

Some might think that Palin's ambitions are the stuff of fantasy and dreams. More realistically I see it as an operation based on lies and deceit coupled with intimidation and bullying tactics.
