Sarah Palin Turns-Off Today Show Viewers In Droves

By Kathleen

What's with the over large scarf, Sarah?
Disclosure. I did not tune in to watch Palin's appearance on the Today Show today as watching a train-wreck would certainly have harshed my mellow (thanks Mrs TBB). Besides which I had better things to do with my time such as an afternoon of baby photo gazing and speaking on skype with my daughter, the highlight of which was watching Nathan alternatively gooing when Jenny looked at him and screaming very loudly because his mummy was trying to give me some attention as well. Oh dear I sense trouble........

Still, I had some time left on my hands and having read a few comments on the blog I decided that I should take a sneek peek at reactions to Palin's co-hosting extravaganza. The results were even better than I expected and my advice to Palin is that she had better start hunting for new career options because "co-hosting" is definitely not in her future. That it was a fiasco would be putting it kindly -- it was so much worse than that. Even Today Show fans left in droves when they saw La Palin on their much loved screens.

Hat/Tip to Dusty, KAO and HFA

The comments below are just a fraction of those that were left on the Today Show public facebook page and many of them are quite delicious.

The question asked by the Today Show was quite simple:

Sarah Palin guest hosts the Today Show, how do you think she did?

Predictably the answer was a big fat thumbs down for Palin. Americans do not like her -- she is everything that the majority of Americans do not want to see or hear from or be reminded of. She is an embarrassment and most people have no interest in watching her, especially when she spends most of her time dissing the President for no good reason other than the opportunity of repeating her tired worn out  "anybody but Obama" meme.

The big guns at NBC and other TV channels would have to be suicidal to repeat a similar fiasco.

  • Jean Eyre Bone I normally tune into the show while getting ready for my day but I purposely did not turn it on this morning because of her!! I don't know what y'all were thinking. Secretly I hope GMA beat y'all in ratings today. Think about who you bring on next time... Seriously disappointing.

  • Julie Cycon Stuewe Didn't watch. First time ever, I switched to GMA.

  • Megan Amey Zarlenga I just left today because I cant listen to her talk. Its like nails on a chalkboard. I will be back tomorrow...although Katie was great on GMA. I miss her.

  • Joyce Borocz Abbott I am a lifelong "Today" watcher. I have stuck by this show with every anchor change and loved it. I am afraid you may have "Jumped the Shark" with this one. It was nice, however, to see Katie Couric on GMA this morning. I have never watched that show, but I may start to tune in now. Bad move NBC - bad move.

  • Fonda Edmonds Nesbitt Teri I guess Sarah's parents did not teach her the lesson because she has always said negative things about a lot of people and when someone says anything negative about her she has a fit and says she's being attack....She's a negative person, who likes to cause trouble to keep her name out there.

  • Lisa Tran McKee I am a very loyal Today Show viewer an for the first time ever, switched the channel to GMA & CBS Morning, which I didn't do even when Gayle King made her debut. I really tried to stick w/ Today, but Palin just doesn't sound natural or intelligent ever. She couldn't even throw it to Al for weather. She bashes the mainstream media, but grabbed the first pop for mainstream airtime. Disappointed in Today & NBC for making a poor choice. I like hearing opposing views, but choose someone intelligent and can answer a question, not dodge them w/ rehearsed lines that someone wrote for her.

  • Laura Yocum I liked seeing her on the show!! Good for her and good for NBC!!! Why would all these "loyal" people leave their beloved morning show because of one show that they disagree with!! Not as loyal as they claim to be!!!

  • Maricarmen Perez What, I saw her on show and hoped immediately this is a joke and does not host regularly or I will not watch Today show again.

  • Kathy McGovern Straus I watch Today every morning. I am very disappointed that you would have that ignorant self promoting obnoxious woman on your show. I DIDN"T watch today. Her voice alone is like nails on a chalkboard.

  • Norma Vader Sarah Palin for President!!!!!! Love Sarah!!!!!! Bunch a Liberal Haters!!!!!

  • Kelli Feathers I actually thought she did very well.....

  • Dina Johnson Didn't watch the wench, and if NBC pulls this stunt again, they will lose a loyal viewer. How were the ratings, Today? You should be ashamed to have this type of trash on in the morning.

  • Karen DeVa Lynette Simmons Boooooo Boooooo on You

  • Robert Silvestri Equal time should now be offered to a liberal counterpart. You know. A woman of intelligence.

  • Sonia Alves give me a break.

  • Richard William Long If I wanted to know in the least what Palin had to say I'd watch Fox's but I don't and now I don't want to watch you either. Why you felt the need to elevate Palin stick any higher is beyond me, thank's for making me check out other morning shows.

  • Jo Ellen Berryman I think by reading all the posts here it is obvious SP was a HUGE mistake!!!!

  • Carey Gurkin Estes I turned of the tv
    2 minutes ago ·

  • Tracey Allan Willson I have chosen not to watch the Today Show this morning which makes me so sad. I love it and normally I'm at work. This is my spring break from teaching so I was looking forward of a week of the Today Show. It gave me a chance to watch a different morning show to get an idea of what else was available.

Weekly Roundup, March 26-April 1, 2012

Had you missed hearing from Michelle Bachmann these last couple of months? Me neither. Well, surprise, she thinks race shouldn’t be an issue in the Trayvon Martin case and plans to support the GOP nominee, whoever that may be. Guess what, Michelle, no one is going to pick you for VP anyway. Dusty also unearthed (via HuffPo) some opposition research on Rick Santorum from his 1994 Senate campaign; the one thing you can say about him is that he is consistently Neanderthal. He is a true believer in himself and his views… no chance of flip-flops from Frothy. Then there’s Mitt. No one will ever accuse him of not changing his mind, or being likable either. Too bad Sarah has the victimhood niche all sewn up, because Mitt is really being picked on these days by everyone who doesn’t like him (which is pretty close to everyone).

Leadfoot keeps a close eye on Levi (too bad about that photo of Levi and Sunny, Leadfoot!), and as it turns out, there is some news from the Johnstons. Sadie is heading to LA, doing another Playboy shoot, and planning to “speak out.” Right. I advise you not to hold your breath. As Leadfoot points out, Sadie must know that Bristol was pregnant in 2007… but there are too many things that the Palins can hold over the Johnstons’ heads for her to be able to tell the truth – although she could make serious cash if she did, and Leadfoot could help! The bigger bombshell: a new photo of Bristol from November 2007, showing what looks to me like a definite baby bump. (I call ‘em like I see ‘em, folks.) Very pregnant-looking in my opinion. So, the plot thickens, just like her waistline.

Sarah Palin is not only a chronic psychological projectionist, but also pretends that she is qualified to pass judgment on President Obama (as well as to lecture America on most any topic). Sunnyjane puts together a lot of pieces in her comparison of the background and associations of Palin and President Obama. The basic message is that there is no comparison. Education? Perhaps Sarah Louise thinks that it’s the number of colleges attended that counts ;-) as she took a rather circuitous quest to try to get some college to give her a diploma…while Barack Obama’s academic credentials are impeccable. Obama worked in business and as a – wait for it – community organizer and later as a professor of constitutional law at the University of Chicago. Sarah Louise? Let’s see, there was the sports desk internship, the Wasilla City Council, the mayor’s job that had to be done by a city manager…in other words, not so much. Sunnyjane also explores Palin’s attacks on Obama’s associations with Reverend Wright and Bill Ayers, along with Palin’s affiliation with the John Birch Society, lunatic fringe preachers, terrorists and secessionists. Well done to put all this in one place, with many excellent links.

Ebbtide’s excellent post takes us on a stroll down memory lane to see how advertising and TV has depicted women over the past 60-70 years. I lived through it, and I’m still shocked to see how women were shown as powerless objects, brainless slaves to men, and subject to overt physical abuse and demeaning imagery. Lysol? OMG. But the timeline is also a record of gradual progress, as the cultural shifts led to bolder characterizations of strong, capable women willing to take roles as leaders outside the home. I especially love the interplay between the historical background and the evolution of the imagery of women. As we know all too well, the past decade has seen some giant steps backwards, with the rise of the incompetent nincompoop (AKA Palin, Bachmann, O’Donnell, Haley, Brewer, etc.), and the overt GOP War on Women that is taking place across the country. This post shows us the image of women that they want us to go back to. I hope that a LOT of young women will read this post and realize that it’s time to get involved. This is a thoughtful, thought-provoking and beautifully constructed post, Ebbtide – thank you!

Kathleen is a grandma!!!! Welcome, Nathan, and congratulations to Jenny and Myles. Best wishes for a happy future. We will try our best to make the world a better place for little Nathan to grow up in. Patrick’s video is a wonderful reminder of how helpful people can be, when given the opportunity.

Some Comments and Links:
Cackling Rad: …in watching Sarah's recent interview with Greta, I couldn't help but marvel at how clearly her personality now shows on her face. There was a time she could say the nastiest things with that sweet smile on her face; now, it's an obvious sneer. Her hatred, frustration, and fury these past four years have eaten her alive from the inside out… in an interview she looks like an angry old shrew. Imagine what she will look like in another four years. When I was a child and would pull a face, my mother would say, "Careful or your face will freeze like that!" She was right.
Spinner: I…[asked my sister] why she would be against: insurance for those with pre-existing conditions; insurance coverage for dependents up to the age of 26; temporary re-insurance for early retirees; preventive health care to mediate long-term issues (the obesity epidemic and related type 2 diabetes will increasingly consume an unsupportable amount of the U.S. GDP); elimination of lifetime and unreasonable annual limits on benefits; prohibition of rescissions of health insurance policies; create uniform coverage documents so consumers can make apples-to-apples comparisons when shopping for health insurance; cap insurance company non-medical, administrative expenditures; etc?
MamaGrisly: That really says it all. She is definitely her own worst enemy. My pet theory is that she is truly delusional enough to believe that one good interview, speech, or publicity stunt can turn it all around. She won a lot of people over by delivering just one speech at the RNC in 2008. I think she's just crazy enough to think that one magical performance now will make everyone forget about the ineptitude, the lying, the quitting, the grifting, the trashy family, the hypocrisy, etc. I think the ridiculous EPIC mistake Blood Libel video was intended to be one of those magical performances, as well as the sad little bus tour, the propaganda "documentary," the tacky reality show, and the CPAC speech.
Linda1961: Clearly Brissie gained weight, judging from KAO's photo progression. I think that the weight gain is due to pregnancy - Brissie is Trig's birth mother. Trig was born earlier than stated, and was going to be adopted out. When he was born with Down's Syndrome, the adoption fell through, and Quitter saw an open door from God. Well, that's how she would put it. She stole Trig from Brissie, so Brissie got pregnant again to "replace" Trig and to embarrass her mother.
To this, Peacepax and others added the theory that Trig was originally named Tripp. (This seems to be the consensus current operating theory among Politicalgates readers.)
Sunnyjane and Lilly-lily pointed out this beautiful performance on Britain’s Got Talent:
Sassy linked to this on Sam Donaldson; make sure to read the Sarah Palin barb near the end.
Cheeriogirl found this from Andy Borowitz as well as this great comment on DemocraticUnderground.com.
"Why do lawmakers make it harder and harder to get an abortion, even in the cases where the mother will die, but easier and easier to get a gun? Do they only care about a life before it is born?
Why don't gun buyers have to follow the same rules women are forced to follow? Wait 48 hours after applying. View on ultrasound of a body with a bullet in it. Listen to the heartbeat of someone as they die of a gunshot wound. Get a lecture from a surgeon on what it is like to operate on a gunshot wound. After all that, if a person still wants a gun, he or she can buy one. Why should buying a gun be any easier than having an abortion?"
KatieAnnieOakley had a great find: report by KTVA on Troopergate from July 2008. 87+% of respondents thought Palin was lying.
The Last Word: President Obama, with h/t to sunnyjane

Open Post - Baby Nathan is Here - BONUS: Amazing video of dolphins getting saved on a beach by holidaymakers

By Kathleen

Please forgive the lack of political posts this weekend but we have been moving through a slow nightmare these last few days. Early evening on Friday Jenny was admitted and induced because she was showing signs of pre-eclampsia. Her labor progress was very slow and it became apparent last night that all was not as it should be. After a sleepless night by all the decision was taken at mid-day today that Jenny would have to deliver the baby by c - section as her blood pressure rose again for the umpteenth time and the baby was not moving.

Now after two finger nail biting hours, we have good news to share.

Baby Nathan -- ten pounds and 2 ounces by c - section. Jenny is being monitored because her blood pressure is still high but baby is fine and they are recovering fast. She and her partner Myles are over the moon and P and I are relieved that both mum and baby are "doing well". Despite 40 hours of no sleep mummy now has baby on the breast and is encouraging the little sleepy head to feed.

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes which helped keep me reasonably sane especially over the last two hours. P was a rock and made the much needed chamomile tea and dispensed much needed hugs, kisses and reassuring words. Those of you who have met him know how compassionate and reliable he is.

I will post a photo as soon as I can but I have been told that Nathan has the most gorgeous eyes...........

+++

Bonus (by Patrick):

We are incredibly happy that the baby and the mother are fine. So there is a new life in this world, with wonderful parents, which is one of the most beautiful things. In order to continue with uplifting messages this Sunday, I would like to post this amazing, unique video about a whole group of dolphins getting stranded on a beach - and then being saved immediately by holidaymakers. The clip was sent to us by a reader, it was posted on youtube a few weeks ago and quickly went viral, with more than 3 millions view.

This is a great image of the humanity which is deep inside all of us. Our natural instinct is to preserve life, to feel compassion - unless it's eradicated from our minds by sinister people who don't want human beings, but killing machines in order to enhance their power. Next to giving birth, this is also one of the "ancient" concepts which still exists in many places of the world and makes life miserable for many. Let's never forget who we really are.
